Hello.
It’s been a while. I keep meaning to move this domain to my new host but keep forgetting. Once I set a plan like that in motion, the site gets ignored for a bit until that other task is done.
It’s not done yet.
I’ve been getting out at odd times of the day lately — super early in the morning or 10:30am or around lunch time. Depending on how warm the weather is and if I want to take advantage of the warmth we’ve finally been getting.
I woke up really early this morning and whacked out a quick 14 miler, at about 52 minutes door to door, burning 1011 calories in the process. Steady winds both ways, not too strong but you could feel them. I had put some slicks on the Ksyrium’s before the ride — making my cross bike a road bike for the second time under my ridership. It was faster, undoubtedly. Smooth. I have noticed that I might need to scooch my saddle forward a little though. Or switch out the seatpost for a zero-setback post or get a longer saddle maybe.
I’d like to do some longer rides soon.

What device are you using that tells you 1011 calories? I can’t figure out how you could arrive at that calculation. From your above numbers, you’d be traveling at 16.2 mph average. I’m guessing you weigh about 150lbs, which, by the most liberal of internet calculators, would mean you burned between 500-700 calories.

Tropp – Suunto T3 tells me all. It has set heart rate zones for me to do interval training — so I max out above HRM for 2-3 minute sprints (at about 22-24mph) which causes super calorie burn.
You’re talking averages but this is an on-board workout calculator based on actual varing heart rate and intensity. My morning rides are typically at a 18mph pace once I get going but doesn’t accommodate for stopping for lights and signs.
My body is also made up oddly enough — I shed weight really easily when I want to and during the summer but pack it back on quickly too.

First long-ride of the season was done today here is St. Louis. The weather is beautiful, and the amount of short steep hills are unforgiving…still nothing but love.
Im in the market for a new messenger bag. I am thinking Crumpler…any models or brands you recommend (typical load…shoes, clothing maybe, a book here and there, camera, and at times a six pack)
